West Point, NY-Working directly with both Warner Brothers New York and Warner Brothers Los Angeles, the West Point Rugby team, in conjunction with the Eisenhower Theatre hosted a prescreening of the movie
Invictus last night for 1000 members of the Corps of Cadets and West Point staff and faculty.
With plenty of man hours, the Eisenhower theatre at West Point was converted into a movie theatre to show what some are calling another blockbuster hit from Director Clint Eastwood. After words from Director of Rugby and Men's Head Coach Rich Pohlidal a slide show was presented highlighting both men's and women's rugby fall campaigns- the crowd erupted after showing a team shot with the Army v. Navy score in the background. After the slide show, Cadets Nikki Harrell and Justin Turner opened the evening with a historical time line of the Civil Rights Movement and Anti-Apartheid Movement in both the USA and South Africa (respectively) and described the significant events in each. The readings were followed up by Cadet Dan Moulton, who opened the movie with his own recital the Poem
Invictus by William Ernest Henley. The poem that was handed to Francois Pienaar by Nelson Mandela for inspiration leading into the world cup in 1995, and the movie's namesake.
