The Army Ruggers travelled to Delaware this past weekend to square off against the University of Delaware Blue Hens. Army wasted little time, after several phases of pick and jam rugby from the forwards, pinning Delaware against the try line, Army went out wide to Dave Geib, whose offload sent Will Holder through for the first try of the match, just two minutes into the first half. After exchanging field position, Army found Ben Leatigaga with plenty of room to run, eventually scoring the second try of the evening. A series of Delaware penalties near the breakdown gave Army six more points as Will Holder converted both penalty kicks. Near the end of the half, Marshall Moten scored off an 8-man pick from the scrum. However an Army penalty for not rolling away gave Delaware an easy penalty kick in the final moments of the half. After forty minutes, Army held a comfortable 23-3 lead.
Kyle Palmer scored on a penalty kick in the opening minutes of the second half, taking the kick for a bloodied Will Holder. Showing signs of life, the Delaware backs managed their first try of the game, moving the ball wide and scoring in the corner. Army’s Leatigaga would answer, however, with an impressive run of his own up the sideline and in for the try. A questionable offsides penalty against Army set up the Delaware offense with good field position which they capitalized on and scored their final try of the evening. Leatigaga would answer again, however, refusing to be tackled and scoring his third try of the evening, completing the hat trick. All in all, the game was a solid team effort that displayed the potential of Army’s top side.
Next Match: Army travels to face Ohio State this coming Saturday, and will return to face Penn State at home on April 23.

Following the top side victory on Saturday, Army’s B side was eager to display its skills against Delaware’s second side. It was a physical game in which Army showcased an impressive scrum and a lot of skill from the back line. Army 8 Man Jacob Christiansen scored the first of eleven Army tries, picking the ball from a stolen scrum. Plebe Alex Savusa scored his first of three tries, receiving the ball after several phases of pick and jam work from the forwards. Kyle Ulses had his say as well, receiving the ball wide and beating defenders to space for another five points. Scrum Half George Levy had a try off another stolen scrum, keeping the ball and plunging forward into the try zone. Will Turner scored his first of two tries, after some clinical work at the breakdown. His try was the final one of the half, giving Army a 29-0 lead.
Alex Savusa wasted little time scoring in the second half after beautifully timing a defensive lift and intercepting a Delaware pass. He went in untouched. Staving off the shutout, Delaware scored a try of its own off a 5 meter scrum. Army’s Karl Crist, got into the mix as well, hurdling a Delaware defender and barging into the try zone. He was followed in short order by none other than Will Turner, who picked the ball from a ruck and found the try line for his second try of the night. Yearling Lock Wells Lange added his own try off a turnover ball. Savusa and Crist each added another try as time expired for a final score of 64-5 and another impressive performance from the second side.
