Army hit the turf running Saturday at 2 p.m. scoring early and often. Possession was in Army’s hands the majority of the match, and the defense was an aggressive wall allowing BC no points. Will Holder scored the first try for Army 1 minute and 8 seconds into the match. Following Holder’s example was Jake Osborne, scoring 2nd phase off of a stolen scrum. Dynamically operating on the blind side, Kyle Ulses received the ball to attack 18 minutes and 21 seconds into the match for a try. The forwards unsheathed a lineout to maul, a wall pressed by Chris Hardee who forced the ball past the try line for an Army try. Hungry for the ball once again, Chris Hardee made his way around the corner flanked with Army forwards on a 5th phase movement, to score his second try of the day after Army again stole the scrum from Boston College. Will Holder was 4/5 on conversion attempts and 1/1 on penalty kicks as Army went into the second half up 36-0 on BC.
Going into the second half Army’s defense stood strong once again, maintaining the shutout and adding 27 points to the total. Taking full advantage of another stolen scrum, Pat Collins was the final product of a 5th phase operation, gliding in for the try. Josh Bounds was an unstoppable force first phase after the lineout to maul, breaking two tackles with prowess for another Army try. Continuing the theme of relentless energy, George Levy evaded a possible tackle and left defenders behind from within his own 22 meter line, sprinting 80 meters for an Army try. Carl Crist, compelled to make it to the try line, trucked past two defenders on the touch line, kept his feet from 50 meters out and covered the distance for Army’s final try with less than 6 minutes left.
Next Match: Army will compete at home against Penn State at Anderson Rugby Complex.
